There is clearly something wrong in the management of the audio in Karmic Koala: Some video and audio editing programs fact suffer major slowdowns, annoying problems and delays the audio. Kdenlive even be unusable. Some have solved
removing pulseaudio, but that will also disappears the volume icon and thus all the possible volume controls from the keyboard.
The solution is: I think when they bundled Karmic have simply forgotten at the last minute to replace a library for the ALSA for pulseuadio. Just puts on us, and everything is fine:
sudo apt-get install libsdl1.2debian-pulseaudio
Restart the session and everything should be fine, even with the rt kernel.
To have more control of inputs and outputs of your soundcard, which is essential if you do music production, I recommend you open the terminal and always use alsamixer (this side it is explained how, in the guide for music production on Ubuntu ).
And enjoy!
