Slow motion effect and HD movies with Canon 550D + Kdenlive
In the last post I wrote how to get the effect cinema (ie: 25 frames per second, shutter 1 / 50). Now, how to get a good slow motion, smooth and not "jerky"?
We will do as you do with the real cinema: we must first decide to shoot a scene if you will be slowed down or not. Mal going, her back to normal speed. It will be a bit 'less definite, though.
When we decide to record a scene in slow-mo, we set these parameters on the Canon:
1280x720 50p
Shutter: 1 / 100
(if you have a camcorder that records at 1920x1080 50p good for you, check this! but always with the shutter a 1/100)
- Stroboscopico: 1
Esportiamo così, per non perdere qualità:
Destinazione → Senza perdita/HQ
Lossless/HQ → MPEG4 i-frame only
A questo punto salviamo il progetto (non si sa mai) e facciamo lo stesso per altre any clip to slow down (if we ever recorded at 50p), saving each time a new project. If you want you can slow them down all in one project, then going to select each piece, but if you are not too many first with separate projects.
Now we begin the assembly of the entire video. Open a new project
"HD 1080p 25fps" . We import all the normal and slow motion clips from us before. No matter what from whom we obtained the clip slowed down, because they are useless (unless you also serve quickly).
think software automatically resize the clip in 720p and 1080p will not have to apply any effect.
We can then export the project as we please. I prefer to H.264 10000k (without the "2 pass", because it does not work!)
course you choose to have all HD-Ready (1280x720) or a Full-HD (1920x1080) but the scenes where slow -mo are actually enlarged 720p (on a Full-HD TV may face slightly grainy, but it also depends very much on the subject again). Is up to you to decide. Maybe you two versions ... To get the full-HD as it is exported, while the HD-Ready simply set resize to 1280x720.
From personal experience I can assure you that it is far better to leave in full-HD. This is because in the movie slowed down the difference is little, however, because if they are shelled Full-HD, with the double shift 720 → 720 → 1080 remain the same pods rather than those who have suffered a single pass 1080 → 720.
Obviously we will have to drop even more old-fashioned, but the effect will be quite jerky.
To obtain a smooth slow-mo to less than half the initial speed, we need cameras that record more than 50 frames per second progressive. These cameras are generally specially made for documentary and cost a lot ...
Here's a little video showing you the final effect:
